We met in July of 2001 - online. We knew of each other, having attended the same church, but had never formerly met in person. We decided to meet at church the next Sunday and things just took off from there. We officially started dating in August of 2001.

On November 6, 2002, we became engaged and started planning for our wedding to be the following winter. We tied the knot on December 20, 2003 at our church. We bought our first home together - a brand new condominium - and moved in in March 2004. The discussion of children came shortly thereafter. We both wanted children, but since we were still very young, we decided to postpone trying until we had been married for at least a year. In September of 2004, one of my friends got pregnant and it made me really long to have a child of my own. We caught the baby bug I guess you could say. I stopped taking my birth control pills the following November and we started trying to conceive.

We figured that the fact that we were young and healthy would mean getting pregnant would come easily. As each month would pass, we would keep our fingers crossed. Soon after I stopped taking the pill, my cycles became very irregular and incredibly painful. During my annual exam, my doctor told me to give it a few more months to see if they would start regulating themselves. In the meantime, I was given a prescription for prenatal vitamins, to start preparing my body for baby.

I went back to the doctor in April of 2006 since my cycles were still extremely irregular. I would go for months without having a period, so this was getting to be very frustrating. When I did get a period, it would be so painful that I was unable to even talk. I was diagnosed with both Amenorrhea and Dysmenorrhea and was scheduled for an HSG to see if my tubes were blocked. I was also given a prescription to start Clomid. My HSG showed that my tubes were normal. However, it showed that I had either a uterine septum or a bicornuate uterus. I had a trans-vaginal ultrasound a couple of weeks later and the doctor determined that it was a septate uterus. We were told that while this doesn't hinder conception, it does increase the risk of miscarriage and that it's best to have it removed. We scheduled a diagnostic laparoscopy/operative hysteroscopy for June 13th.

My surgery turned out to be a success. All of the septum was removed. The doctor also found several spots of endometriosis on both of my ovaries that she burned off. I was put on estrogen for several weeks following the surgery to prevent scar tissue. After my post-op appointment on July 5th, we were given the go-ahead to try and conceive. I'll be on Clomid to help speed up the process and to try to regulate my cycles and induce ovulation. We're keeping our fingers crossed!
